Five reasons to go to Secret Cinema’s Bridgerton ball

Aural pleasures

1. Aural pleasures

Although time-travelling back to 1813 you’ll be taking your musical faves with you, including rousing polkas and lively quadrilles from the likes of Skepta and Taylor Swift (Lord and Lady to you) courtesy of the in-house string section. Get practising your best bow or curtsey as you’ll be twinkling your toes in the sumptuous surroundings of the grand indoor ballroom at a secret location in the fashionable quarters of Regency-era Wembley.

2. Recreational diversions

There’s a host of other amusements, if your dance slippers start to get sore, including joining the habitees of the ’Ton to watch Regency-style boxing matches, unleashing your inner Royal Academician to enjoy some life drawing or sampling the delights of period tipples and tasty morsels.

Tired of endless trackie bottoms and hoodies? The ball is the perfect excuse to get drip and don breeches and bodices, plus plenty of ice and sparkles, ‘Bridgerton’-style. If your own wardrobe is currently looking a bit more athleisure than empire line you can hire your period togs from Secret Cinema after booking. Your party ensemble will be offset by the carefully curated sets, all designed to transport you back to that more glamorous time.

As part of the immersive experience, each guest is given a backstory with their own personalised mission to complete that evening. To get you fully in the role, there are handy tips and pointers on Regency etiquette you can check out in advance on the website. Be warned that although you’ll be mingling with the crème de la crème of London society, not all of Lady Whistledown’s acquaintances are as well-behaved as others: there’s guaranteed to be some rakish types and a few eye-catching rogues amongst the bucks and belles.

5. The Age of Enlightenment

This was an era of social discourse, a high point of culture and intellect, somehow all  miraculously achieved without the aid of TikTok or documented on the ‘Gram. If ‘Bridgerton’ could manage it, then so can you. Embrace the digital detox, tuck the camera away and enjoy the spectacle IRL. You can always squeeze in a selfie or two on arrival, or when you’re letting your hair down at the afterparty.
